Port Forwarding

Port Forwarding

Port Forwarding when using a 4G router or 5G router with 4G SIM / 5G SIM Card.

If you are using a standard 4G or 5G SIM Card obtained directly from the major UK networks including O2, Vodafone, EE and 3 Mobile then these 5G Data SIM cards will give you high speed 4G or 5G mobile broadband Internet connectivity and when used in a 4G router or 5G router they will allow your connected devices such as phones, tablets, PC’s and other equipment such as CCTV NVR or monitoring devices access OUT to the internet. However if you need to communicate with these devices from elsewhere on the Internet you will need to access your router and configure Port Forwarding. These standard 4G / 5G Data SIM cards use carrier grade NAT when your router connects to the 4G / 5G mobile network and when you tray to remotely connect using the IP address when on www.showmyip.co.uk or the WAN IP address shown in your router status page or when you try to remotely connect using Dynamic DNS / DYNDNS / DDNS then the IP addresses shown, whether the router WAN IP address or the public IP address you will be unable to do so. In order to use port forwarding in your 4G / 5G router you will need to use a Fixed IP SIM Card.

You cannot use DYNDNS with a standard data SIM Card – you can read about WHY by viewing our DYNDNS over 4G Page.
